As part of Rome2rio’s travel planning tool, we provide an estimated trip cost in your initial search results to help you choose the best way to get to your destination. These are not fixed ticket prices, but an indication of what you could expect to pay when travelling.
Given how prices fluctuate due to availability and seasonality, we understand that sometimes our estimated price-range may misrepresent the actual cost. This is why we recommend adding your travel dates to your search (if your journey can be booked on Rome2rio) or visiting the operator’s website directly.
Train/Bus/Tram/Ferry/Rideshare
We collect historic pricing samples of routes for each operator. These samples are then simplified into a per kilometre model. If we do not have historical data for a particular route, we might use pricing from a similar service (usually in the same country). If an operator offers multiple travel classes (such as 2nd class and 1st class), our price estimates are based on the least-expensive class.
Fly
We collect historic pricing samples of each route. These samples are then simplified into a per kilometre model. If we do not have historical data for a particular route, we might use pricing from a similar route. These estimates are based on the cost of a one-way flight travelling in economy class and booked in advance.
Drive
For drive results, we display the estimated fuel cost for a standard sedan vehicle (excluding tolls and the cost to rent/own a vehicle). To do this, we collect annual data on global fuel prices that is then simplified into a per kilometre model.
Taxi
For taxi results, we collect and check rates for each city with one or more local taxi operators. This is then simplified into a per kilometre model. If we do not have taxi data for a particular location, we might use pricing from a similar city (usually in the same country).
Shuttle/Towncar
We collect data from our transport partners to create price estimates for shuttles and towncars. We then use this data to display a simplified per kilometre model. If we do not have data for a particular route, we might use data from a similar service (usually in the same country).
Uber
We collect pricing data from Uber, which we then use to display a simplified per kilometre model. The estimate is based on UberX, the most common private ride option provided by Uber.
Bike-share
For Bike-share price-estimates, we collect and verify rates for each city bike-share program. This is then simplified into a per kilometre model. If we do not have data for a particular location, we might use data from a similar city (usually in the same country).
