One good deed…

Last month, Rome2rio’s Social Club (those fine purveyors of food and frivolities) upped their game. This time, instead of entertaining us, they set their minds to helping others – specifically by supporting and celebrating our local refugee community.

As part of Refugee Week (16-22 June), the Social Club put out a call for food and toiletries to send to Melbourne’s Asylum Seeker Resource Centre. The ASRC Foodbank supports nearly 700 people per week, providing free groceries for their families. Many people seeking asylum have no income at all and the Foodbank offers essential items, from toothpaste to teabags, to support them.

The initiative was not only heeded by the larger Rome2rio team but welcomed with open arms, with staff members organising online food shops, bringing items from home and helping pack up the tables-loads of goods for delivery to the ASRC headquarters in Footscray.

In fact, the project was so popular that our work neighbours, Culture Amp, caught wind of it and were inspired to organise their own ASRC food drive. Great work, Social Club!

The Rome2rio Social Club’s remit is to make coming to work even more fun. They organise the Christmas party and other regular events, which have previously included a VR evening and a chocolate-making class. They’re excited to be presenting more social initiatives later in the year for Rome2rio to support.
